Saudi VAT Return Due Date
Enter your taxable supplies and the last day of the tax period. Shows whether you file monthly or quarterly, the due date for the return and payment, and estimated fines.
Monthly or quarterly (Article 58)
If your taxable supplies in the previous 12 months were more than SAR 40,000,000, your tax period is one month. Otherwise it is three months, and you may ask ZATCA for a monthly period (VAT Implementing Regulations, Article 58). At exactly SAR 40,000,000, the period is three months.
Due date (Articles 59, 62 and 74)
File the return and pay the tax by the last day of the month after the tax period ends (Articles 59(1) and 62(1)). A quarter ending 31 March is due by 30 April. Returns and payments are due on that date even when it is a Friday, Saturday or official holiday (Article 74(1)); only other obligations move to the next working day.
Fines (VAT Law, Chapter 16)
- Late return: 5% to 25% of the tax that should have been declared (Article 42(3)).
- Late payment: 5% of the unpaid tax for each month or part of a month (Article 43). The article sets no maximum.
- Not registering on time: SAR 10,000 (Article 41). A fine may be doubled for the same violation repeated within 3 years (Article 47).
Worked example: quarter ending 31 March 2026, due 30 April 2026, VAT due SAR 100,000, paid on 1 June 2026: two months or part months × 5% × 100,000 = SAR 10,000. Filed late: SAR 5,000 to SAR 25,000.
The fines are from the VAT Law text published by ZATCA and match ZATCA's penalties page. We could not open the current consolidated law on laws.boe.gov.sa, so any later change to these articles is marked "Being verified". This is an estimate, not tax advice.

Who files Saudi VAT returns monthly?
Taxpayers whose taxable supplies in the previous 12 months were more than SAR 40,000,000, and anyone ZATCA approves or directs to file monthly (VAT Implementing Regulations, Article 58).
Does the Saudi VAT deadline move if it falls on a weekend?
No. Article 74(1) of the Implementing Regulations keeps returns and payments due on the date even if it is not a working day, so file by the working day before.
